With a coach who is also a psychologist, you can learn to live the life you want right now, no matter what you weigh.
Your choices are not just:
1. go on another diet
or
2: give up and feel bad
feel hopeless because you don’t want to go on another diet, but you don’t know how to feel better
constantly negatively compare your appearance to others
feel terrified that without dieting you will eat and gain weight forever
never feel like you look good, because your clothes are too baggy or too tight
deny yourself nice clothing in your current size, but you never fit in the clothes you like for long
feel ashamed and believe there is something wrong with you because you can’t keep the weight off
have a list of things you will do and places you will go when you lose the weight
avoid activities that require certain clothing (swimsuits!) if you can’t hide your body
feel like your weight, body, and dieting are all you can think about, even when you don’t want to
try to hate yourself thin by berating yourself when you overeat
Understand exactly why yo-yo dieting and “positive thinking” have not worked (hint: there is nothing wrong with you!)
Take the number on the scale out of the equation that creates your happiness
Quit seeing your problem as one of willpower or motivation
Stop waiting to be smaller in order to live the life you want
Make peace with your body even if it’s not what you want it to be right now
Break free from the obsessive thinking that keeps you stuck in your belief that you can’t be happy until you reach your goal weight
Stop viewing everyone else through the negative lens of comparison
See a picture or reflection that you don’t like without it ruining your day
Make yourself immune to triggering comments from others about your body
Redirect the time, money and energy that has gone toward dieting into something else you’ve dreamed of doing
Use self-compassion rather than self-hatred to create the changes you want
And unlike another diet, these results last forever.
I’ll tell you more about how to disconnect your happiness from the number on the scale.
I’ll ask you about your experience with dieting and start helping you figure out what is keeping you stuck.
I’ll give you examples of what it might be like to work together.
I’ll make sure you have practical tips that you can start using right away.
I promise, my solution is not to smile at yourself in the mirror and say “I’m beautiful” all day long. This doesn’t work, and you’ll learn why.
Some of my coaching is thought work, but there is so much more than that.
We use this to separate your weight from the rest of you, and focus on what you decide really matters.
My only goal is to help you stop the madness and feel better right now.
Some of my clients do feel so much better that they don’t care about weight loss anymore.
Others figure out how to make lasting changes that will keep the weight off for the rest of their lives.
I’ll help you clarify your own goals, but I have no agenda for you.
I only accept clients who I believe are a good fit, so I won’t waste our call that way.
I’ll want to spend more time learning about your struggles and providing some help, than on telling you about me.
“Jill asks questions that are like unlocking a little door in your brain so you can see a hallway with lots of other doors that open up to different ways of seeing things. In her gentle but organized way, she’s helped me untangle my big spaghetti bowl of thoughts and feelings so that everything makes sense and I can change so many things that I don’t like about my life. Coaching is part of my self-care.”
—Lisa B.
“Because of coaching with Dr. Jill, I realized I didn’t have to be skinny to quit my job and follow my dream of working as an artist. I actually did it, and now I love my life, and this never would have happened without her! She is calm and curious and this helped me find my courage.”
—Marie H.
“Jill helped me figure out a really complicated work situation where I felt stuck and didn’t even know what I wanted. I would not have thought of the questions she asked to get me to my decisions. We made a plan that helped me get through some tough meetings and now I am in a so much better place with work, and my whole life actually.”
—Catherine K.
If you choose to work with me, this is as a coach and not as a psychologist. Coaching does not prevent, cure, or treat any mental or medical condition, and is not a substitute for psychotherapy with a licensed mental health professional. Although I am a licensed psychologist, my coaching is a separate business that is not intended to diagnose or treat mental illness.
